From September 10 to 21, 2024, as part of the MEDEVAC program, another health and humanitarian mission took place at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, Zambia. A team of specialists from the Motol University Hospital, led by Assoc. Prof. MUDr. Zdeněk Čada, Ph.D., performed 43 surgeries during the mission, primarily focusing on oncological diagnoses in the head and neck area, as well as ear and nose surgery.
During the mission, 14 patients with chronic middle ear infections, 12 patients with malignant neck tumors, and 17 patients with nasal polyps or other pathologies were operated on. The surgeries were performed without major complications, and local doctors had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modern surgical techniques.
The mission also included the delivery of medical supplies and discussions about potential internships for Zambian doctors in the Czech Republic. The Czech team contributed once again to the development of healthcare in the region, and the mission was evaluated as highly successful.
