Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery

In collaboration with ENT specialists and plastic surgeons, we are involved in the surgical treatment of cleft lips and palates. Since 2005, more than 900 newborns have undergone early lip repair surgery at Motol University Hospital. In cases where a child is affected by a facial cleft defect, we typically perform the first lip surgery in the first days after birth. If the palate is affected, another surgery usually follows between 9 months and 1.5 years of age.

In cases where the defect includes a cleft in the upper jaw, surgery is typically performed around the age of 10 years, depending on the development of the permanent teeth.

Are you expecting a baby with a cleft lip or palate? Please feel free to consult with our specialists regarding surgical treatment options. Contact us via email at rozstepy@fnmotol.cz to arrange a meeting.

Collaboration with Za novým úsměvem

An important part of our program is our collaboration with the Za novým úsměvem association (www.zanovymusmevem.cz), which helps parents of cleft patients navigate the challenges of the condition, connect with others in similar situations, and share their experiences. Every year, the organization organizes a weekend meeting for the parents of cleft patients, featuring professional presentations and, most importantly, personal consultations.
