Stem auditory neuroprosthesis

A trunk auditory implant is an electronic device that enables the provision of hearing in deaf patients for whom a classic cochlear implant is contraindicated. These are cases where the inner ear is not developed or the nerve carrying information from the inner ear to the brain is not present. The stem implant can also be used in patients in whom already implanted classical cochlear implants do not work. A stem implant consists of an external part consisting of a processor, a microphone and a coil. The internal implanted part consists of the body of the implant, an internal coil and an electrode that is inserted into the brainstem area. The operation is performed under general anesthesia in collaboration with an ENT doctor and a neurosurgeon.
